Not many Saturdays left before Christmas Day, but I wonder what people are looking for on this Saturday at Yahoo. Let’s take a look at the top 10 searches and see how many are holiday related.
Yahoo Top 10
1. Hanukkah
2. Guns N’ Roses
3. Penelope Cruz
4. Saoirse
5. The Princess and the Frog
6. Matt Damon
7. Nobel Peace Prize
8. Latke Recipes
9. Australia Iceberg
10. Online Games
Wow! Yahoo Users are not in the holiday spirit yet. At least it would seem that way if you went by the top 10 searches at Yahoo search engine. The holiday season does rank number 1 with Hanukkah on the list. I really don’t see any others that point to Christmas; that is just 13 short days away. I’m not sure what latke is, so I will have to check on that one. One sec…
Awww I see. People want latke recipes so they can make this food item that is done with potatoes. I’m sure the folks in Idaho could have told me what latke was, but this is the first time I have heard about it. Apparently this is a holiday treat, so latke counts as 2 things in the top 10 that are holiday related.
The most interesting story in the top 10 searches is the Australian Iceberg. It’s a large 19 KM long and is heading for the Western side of Australia.

This monster iceberg heading toward Australia is called B17B. At one time, this huge iceberg stayed in one spot in the ocean. Due to the ocean’s currents and winds, it is now moving toward the Aussie Coastline. Officials do believe the big Autstralia iceberg will break up into smaller pieces before it gets to the western shores of Australia. It was much larger at one time and this is only one part that has broke off and is now on it’s way to Australia. It is unusal to see one this big and in this part of the world. It was once a part of Antartica and now will be slowly melting into the ocean and adding a lot more gallons of fresh water to the salty seas. They are calling the B17B a once in a lifetime opportunity. I think with global warming continuing to increase by the day; this will only be the start of large icebergs we see coming from the North and South Poles.

Top 10 Yahoo Searches
1. United Nations Day
2. Halloween Costumes
3. Garth Brooks
4. Hilary Swank
5. Boston Book Festival
6. UFC 104
7. Motherhood Movie
8. New York Yankees
9. Los Angeles Angels
10. Bridge School Benefit
I see baseball is still popular on the searches. No big surprise to see the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels making the top 10 at Yahoo. I think baseball will stay popular online, until we can crown a winner in the 2009 World Series.
Hilary Swank #4

I’m not sure why Hilary Swank made the top 10 in searches today. I tried to see what people were searching for on Hilary, but her name is appearing in a few different headlines. So no clear story line why people would be searching for her, but it’s obvious that she is staying active to have her name ranking at number 4 on the Yahoo search engine.
Garth Brooks #3

I haven’t read much about Garth Brooks lately, but did see a quick story on the news the other day concerning him. It appears the retired legend of country music Garth Brooks is seeking a comeback in the entertainment world. I’m not sure what the driving force is for him to leave retirement, but it’s not unusual to see the really great ones make a comeback. There is no doubt that Mr. Brooks is one of the great ones; when you talk about country music singers. Garth Brooks has a huge and loyal fan base. I’m sure his fans are smiling ear to ear right now, if he is indeed planning to pick up the microphone again.
Motherhood Movie #7

Uma Thurman will be starring in the new movie called Motherhood and this is a movie about blogging! I think a lot of bloggers will want to watch this new movie. Not many movies about bloggers and Uma Thurman is going to play the role of a stay-at-home mommy that works as a blogger. I look forward to seeing this new movie and this is why Motherhood is appearing in the top 10 searches at Yahoo. Bloggers have the search engine powers, so a blogging movie has to be ranked high, right?
These 3 people were the things that caught my eye in the top searches today. Did you see something on the list that caught your eye?

Yahoo is considered one of the big 3 when it comes to search engines online. MSN and Google would be the other 2 in the “big 3″ equation. Some interesting things are being searched for now on Yahoo and these are the top 10 things Yahoo users are searching for:
1. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
2. Tiger Woods
3. Guy Laliberte
4. Planet Mercury
5. Jack LaLanne
6. Mariah Carey
7. Nightmare on Elm Street
8. Ehud Olmert
9. Sequenom
10. National Parks
Normally I can look at these top searches and know why a few are being so heavily searched. I really have no idea why some of these things are appearing on the top 10 at Yahoo searches. The Nightmare on Elm Street I was assuming that was being searched right now; since Halloween is so close and our next big holiday. I actually see that they are going to make a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie. This new Freddy Krueger movie will be a remake of the 1980′s Nightmare on Elm Street movie. It will open in theaters next year, so it will be 2010 before you can see the newest Nightmare on Elm Street movie.
I noticed on PBS (Public Broadcasting Station) they were doing stories on national parks tonight. Perhaps this is the reason “national parks” is number 10 on the list at Yahoo today. I really don’t have an educated guess on why some of the other things are being searched so heavily at Yahoo today. Maybe I will learn more in the coming days why things like Mariah Carey, Planet Mercury, and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds are being searched for. Yahoo has recently changed up their homepage and there is a new look at Yahoo now. Seeing the top 10 things people are searching for can be easily seen on the new Yahoo homepage. I think I will keep up with these things and see if I can pick up on any search engine trends that might be developing over at Yahoo.
