What’s Wrong with College Football?

BCS Ranking Cheerleaders

This picture above can answer the question to the title of this blog post. These are the two worse things ever and I mean EVER to happen to college football. Kirk Herbstreet or “Herbie” as Brent Musburger likes to say is the two problems that college football needs to fix. It’s clear ESPN is not going to step-in and it’s time the NCAA did. Herbie and Brent tell voters where to vote and which teams belong where. The problem is they use their bias opinions and rank bad teams way too high. This causes problems and we have teams in the top 25 that don’t belong there. The USC Trojans is Kirk Herbstreet’s team. He has blamed a ABC camera man for being a fan of USC and acted like he felt bad for him when Stanford destroyed USC earlier this year. Kirk was just feeling bad his team lost and he tried to divert the attention to a ABC camera man; who had just taken a nasty fall when a college football player bulldozed him over during a game.

If you want to see college football cleaned up; then fixed the Herbstreet and Musburger problem:

*Not allowed to predict what the polls will say the next day

*Not allowed to do commercials with the USC coach

*Not allowed to call games or be on TV period

Get rid of Kirk and Brent and college football could correct a lot of problems. Neither one of these two will admit Alabama and Florida are the best two teams in college football. We want the BCS to put the two best teams in the nation against each other? Then put the Crimson Tide and Gators on a football field and let them play a game for all the marbles. Don’t rely on the SEC to fix these problems and the SEC Championship Game should only be round 1 and college fans should get to see these two great teams play more than once this year. We could see who the true champions of college football is if we matched these two teams up twice.

Sound like a bad idea? Well it wasn’t a few years back when Michigan and Ohio State played a close match up in college football. These two and other ESPN folks wanted to see a rematch of the Ohio State and Michigan game because they said these were the best two teams in college football. Michigan went on to lose after these strong statements and Florida pounded Ohio State in the big title game. Now we have the same situation, but now all the games are done. The only losing that can be done is to each other. If you want to see the two best teams in college football go at it; then send Texas and TCU to their own bowl game and let’s see Alabama and Florida have a rematch.

I’m sure you guys remember the Michigan and Ohio State year and these two played and it was a 2 point difference in the final score. So many wanted to see a rematch here, but not 1 word with Bama and Florida. Texas can’t hang with either one of these two teams and those small schools that are sporting undefeated records should not even be in the top 10 right now. Let’s face it. The Southern teams can’t produce undefeated teams because there is so much talent and competition in the ACC and SEC. We had to create our own championship games in these college divisions, so we could at least see two good games each year.

The ACC Championship Game between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Clemson Tigers will be better than any other bowl match up. The Alabama and Florida game for the SEC Championship in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome is where the Super Bowl of college football will be played in 2009. You heard me right. The college Super Bowl is going to be held on December 5th in Atlanta, Georgia and this will determine the best team in college football. The BCS Bowl Games will determine nothing and I mean nothing. The BCS will have no attractive games on their slate. If they pick the Texas Longhorns to face a team from the SEC; then remember that famous line from Rambo, “if you plan to send that many in, then be sure to remember one thing” (What’s that?) “a good supply of body bags”. Alabama and Florida are both about 5 speeds ahead of the Texas football program and college fans deserve a better match up for their BCS Championship Game. The only team in the nation that could stand a chance against a Alabama or Florida team from the SEC will be the team that wins the ACC Championship.

I will be rooting for Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and I hope the Crimson Tide defeat Tim Tebow and company. I do think Florida is a slightly better team and I see the Gators winning 38 to 24 in the Big SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. That’s my prediction for the SEC match up and I also have one for the ACC Championship Game. I will go with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to beat the Clemson Tigers in Tampa Bay, Florida on December 5th with a final score of 33 to 27 in Tech’s favor.

Congratulations to the best 4 teams in college football:

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Clemson Tigers

Florida Gators

Alabama Crimson Tide

Too bad the biggest problem in college football is a couple of sports announcers that can’t look at the teams for who they are and not what they want them to be. Kirk Herbstreet is the worse one in the world for supporting the over ranked USC Trojans and keeping them in the top 25; when they could easily be beat by at least 25 teams in college football. Brent Musberger is a close 2nd for his opinions on where the teams should be ranked in the polls that come out on Sunday. It’s Brent that is telling voters where to put teams and his bias votes has caused all of the problems that college football has had for the last decade or longer. I am begging the NCAA officials to ban Kirk Herbstreet and Brent Musberger from ever doing another college football game and no more national audiences for these two. They chose a Stanford and Notre Dame football game over the Georgia Tech and Georgia rivalry that was clearly the better match up on that Saturday in late November.
