Wrestling in the Backyard
Published by admin | Filed under Blogroll
I remember when I was younger I would get with my friends and we would wrestle in the backyard. We started off just using a foam mattress and later on moved it to the trampoline. We would imitate our favorite wrestlers at the time and try to perform all their famous moves. I remember Kerry Von Erich and all the Von Erich family and Kerry’s move was the iron claw. You would open your hand up and clinch it around someone’s head while driving your fingers in the temple of their forehead. It was a good move to have out in the backyard. I love the tag team combination of Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy. They were the Freebirds and one of my favorite tag team combos of all time. I was also a big fan of Tommy “Wildfire” Rich, Roddy Piper, Tony Atlas and Mr. Wrestling #2. I really like the old wrestlers back then and they actually wrested too!
Today’s wrestling has become a microphone contest and you don’t see them wrestle. You just watch them yell at each other and make their bold claims on a microphone. It’s a lot like MTV and the way they use to play videos or American Idol use to sing. If you turn on wrestling now, you don’t see them wrestle, if you watch MTV you don’t see videos playing and you don’t get to see amateur singers actually singing on American Idol no more. So much hype is now built up around other areas and you just see the hype instead of the actual performances.
I’m sure I wasn’t the only one running around in my underwear trying to pretend like I was a wrestler. I know I have a few friends that are guilty of the same thing too. I would like to see some quality wrestling come back on television again, but it looks like the wrestlers talking in the microphone is here to stay. I wonder how effective Andre the Giant or Tommy Rich would have been on the microphone.
