Georgia’s Drought Conditions

Published by admin | Filed under Blogroll

We have been doing ok for the summer of 2008 in Georgia so far. We are below normal for our rainfall deficit on the year. So things could be much better, but we are ahead of the game in 2008, than we were this time last year. Last summer the state of Georgia got seriously low on its water storage and the amount it was releasing down stream was more than what we could afford to release last summer. This year we have been getting more rain, but slowly we are creeping back into the serious drought range; so a long ways to go for the rest of this summer and for the fall this year.

The good news this week is that our area is forecasted for those afternoon thunderstorms all this week and if we can get a nice little rain shower each day for the next few days, this will help a lot on our rainfall deficit for the year. From right now until the middle of August will go a long ways in determining just how bad the drought might get this year. The experts believe our fall time of the year will be worse than the summer time for Georgia residents. So the next few weeks will be critical for us and the more rain fall that we can get now, will go a long ways into helping us keep water for the 2008 year. At least rain is in the forecast and it gives us hope here in Georgia. Let’s just hope it turns out to be true and the skies really do open up for us this week. Be sure to try and still conserve water, because we never know when our last rain will fall for the late summer and fall around the North Georgia area.
